Warner Bros. CEO Explains Why They Killed Batgirl

There has been much confusion and sadness over the recent brutal news Bat girl is cancelled. In the past few days since this announcement, many DC fans have been asking why Warner Brothers Discovery wouldn’t release a movie that was so close to completion? During PB’s investor call on Thursday, the CEO David Zaslav gave more clarity about the whole situation. Bat girl was abandoned because it did not fit the company’s strategic approach to maximize safe financial returns.

Other films included in the conversation Bat girl were recently canned films Scoob: The Holiday Ghost and Miracle twins. Speaking specifically about DC, Zaslav said, “The goal is to grow the DC brand and characters, but it’s also important to protect the DC brand. He kept saying, “We’re not going to release a movie unless we believe in it, especially with DC.” On the same note, Zaslav also said: “We will not release the film until it is ready.”

It all corresponds to what it is Was reported over the past few months and especially over the past few days. Zaslav is trying to fix the mess left by former WB executives, who infamously implemented HBO Max’s same-day-and-date release strategy at the height of the pandemic. It’s a financial blunder that WB is still paying for today, and Zaslav focused heavily on theatrical releases. Bat girl, Scoob 2and Miracle twins never intended to go to theaters at the time of her conception. This was despite much speculation Bat girl would give it Blue beetle made the leap from broadcast to theater just a few months ago.

As for the future of the DCEU, there has been a lot of talk about a ten year plan like Marvel. They would also try to fix some of the questionable in-universe choices made by the previous regime in PB. As for upcoming movies, e.g Black Adam, Shazam: Wrath of the Godsand FlashZaslav expressed excitement for those projects at the time of the call.

DC fans have been going through an emotional rollercoaster the past few days. While it makes financial sense to move on from films like Bat girl, that wound is still very fresh. As fans, this is going to take some time to recover and we just have to be patient with WB. Things like structure can definitely benefit the DCEU going forward. It doesn’t seem like it now, but the movies once did Flash finally come out and paint a clearer picture of the universe, I hope DC fans can rest easy.

For now, all we can do is re-watch the DCEU on HBO Max and get ready for some of our favorite heroes to return to the big screen.
