As the Buccaneers began Friday morning’s practice, reporters noticed something unusual.
The quarterback Tom Brady was not on the field.
But apparently there is no need to worry. According to multiple reporters, Brady was excused from the session to attend to a personal matter.
Brady’s absence shouldn’t be a big deal at this point in training camp given the quarterback’s knowledge and experience in coordinator Byron Leftwich’s scheme. Brady’s body can also benefit from a few days off in a row. He did not practice Wednesday, and the Buccaneers did not practice as a team Thursday.
Kyle Trask, who Tampa Bay selected in the second round last year, could get more reps now that Brady is gone. Head coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that he’s seen Trask feel better on offense.
“He’s confident in where he’s going, he understands everything,” Bowles said. “We put him in a lot of situations where he gets experience.” That’s all we can ask for now.”
