The Commanders waived/injured rookie Drew White on Wednesday. White tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee after hitting a run Antonio Gibson during Tuesday’s practice.

White will return to injured reserve once he clears waivers.

“Unfortunately it’s an ACL tearChiefs coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday, via Bryan Manning of USA Today . “You could almost call it non-contact. His leg was planted. He went to turn around and face away from him, his pins unfortunately left on the ground. Very sorry. He will go through the process with doctors and the team will take care of all his medical needs. He will be IR.

White released a statement on social media Wednesday night.

“Thank you all for the kind messages and support,” he wrote. “I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such great people. This is just another chapter in the book I’m writing. I will come back stronger.”

White was one of three undrafted free agent linebackers signed by Washington.
