An 80-year-old retailer proprietor shot and killed a suspect who tried to rob a Riverside County comfort retailer, authorities stated.

Riverside County The sheriff’s department said deputies were called to the business around 2:47 a.m. Sunday on a report of an attempted robbery at gunpoint.

Surveillance video obtained by CNN shows a man walking into a Norco Market & Liquor store and pointing a shotgun at the owner behind the counter. The owner then reaches for a firearm and shoots the suspect.

The sheriff’s department said the owner fired one shot from a shotgun, causing the suspect to flee.

“A legally armed member of our community prevented a violent crime and ensured his own safety after encountering multiple armed suspects,” the department said.

The owner, who did not want to be identified to protect his privacy, told CNN he saw a gunman approaching the store minutes before he entered.

Surveillance cameras outside the store show another gunman get out of a parked SUV and start toward the store just before the injured suspect runs back to the car, apparently yelling “he shot my arm.”

One suspect was later found at a Southern California hospital suffering from a gunshot wound, authorities said. He remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, the sheriff’s department said, noting that he will be booked into the jail after he is released from medical care.

Three other people in the SUV were arrested and charged with robbery and conspiracy, the department said, adding that numerous stolen firearms were found in the stolen vehicle.

They were arraigned Wednesday and pleaded not guilty, a spokesman for the Riverside County District Attorney told CNN.
