Two conservatives, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro, who have been highly critical of former President Donald Trump, were officially announced as regular hosts of The View on Thursday.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg made the announcement during two live segments of the ABC daytime talk show.
Griffin said she was “honored” to be the host, and Navarro described it as a “tremendous, unparalleled privilege.”
The casting of Griffin and Navarro as regulars on the show comes as no surprise at all. The two have regularly co-hosted the show, and several news organizations recently reported that Griffin will soon be announced as an official co-host.
Griffin 2020 resigned from the Trump administration in December, where she held several positions, including White House communications director. Griffin has since criticized his former boss and colleagues who mentored him.
Navarro, a longtime Republican strategist and commentator, since 2019. contributor to The View, has spoken out against Trump and his allies without restraint for years.
Both Griffin and Navarro are CNN political commentators. A CNN spokesperson said the two will continue their roles at the cable news network and also host The View.
The View has been searching for a conservative co-host since Meghan McCain left the program last summer.
“We promised to take some time to fill the slot, and with Alyssa, we found a perfect match and a welcome addition to the show,” executive producer Brian Teta said in a statement. “She is willing to share her unique political experience and brings a strong conservative perspective while holding her ground in tough debates with hosts and guests on both sides of the aisle.”
“Anna has made an indelible impact on The View since she first joined us at the table,” Teta added. “She’s a strong independent thinker with wise insight, not to mention being smart and incredibly funny.” We are very excited to officially welcome her as host.
