Actress Anne Heche was critically injured Friday in a fiery car crash into a home in Mar Vista, sources tell NBCLA.
The crash was reported shortly before 11 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Walgrove Avenue, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Police said the driver sped down a residential street and drove 30 feet into a house. The Mini Cooper involved in the crash was speeding and may have hit a curb before being launched more than two feet through a front yard and into a home.
The owner of the house was in the yard at the time of the accident and was not injured.
A neighbor described what he saw after the driver was rescued.
“There was tons of smoke in the house. I think they used a crane to move the car to get the driver out. It was crazy.”
Humphrey said the car stopped at the 738-square-foot, two-story house, which was built in 1952.
According to Humphrey, the crash caused the structural compromise and the fire.
“Fifty-nine firefighters took 65 minutes to reach, contain and completely extinguish the flames of the heavily damaged structure and rescue an adult woman found inside a vehicle who was transported by LAFD paramedics to an area hospital in critical condition.” Humphrey said.
