Explaining why Aamir is responsible for all this, Karan said, “In 2001. you came up with two movies. Dil Chahta Hai and Riverboth had new sensibilities, both had new syntax in cinema, then you came up with the film after that Rang De Basanti In 2006, then you did Taare Zameen Par right after that, you started building a certain audience and filmmakers.”
Aamir refuted all the claims and said, “No, you are wrong. These were films from the heart. Those films had emotions. They reach the common man. It is something you will connect with emotionally. Rang De Basanti is a very emotional film. It touches people from the grassroots.”
Aamir went on to say, “I’m not saying make action films or gritty films. Make good films with great stories, but choose topics that are relevant to most people. Every filmmaker has the freedom to make what they want. But when you choose something, the big part of India isn’t really interested… There are niche people who are interested that most of us don’t realize. That’s what I feel is the difference.”
South Indian films have done exceptionally well across the world in the last few years. But big Bollywood movies love PrithvirajRanbir Kapoor’s shamshera and Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar failed to attract audiences to theaters.
